Martin Labuda

Martin got his skis strapped to his feet before he knew how to walk properly. He would walk to his local ski hill in a small town in Slovakia and do as many laps as he could, trying to imitate the best skiers on the mountain.

At first he was splitting his time between cross country and downhill skiing, only to later focus his efforts on competitive cross country skiing. After retiring from XC and pursuing education, his passion drew him back. He started exploring slackcountry as a weekend warrior during his Bachelor degree. His dedication to skiing took on another level after moving to Vancouver Island, BC. Working as a trail crew and volunteer ski patrol, he realized he could perhaps make skiing his career. Moving to the interior BC, he first got to experience the champagne powder in Panorama, where he worked as avalanche technician, and he was hooked. Skiing as much as he could, in bounds and out of bounds, he really got the hang of it and discovered the competitive side of skiing again, this time it was freeride!

Deep powder skiing adventure – Skier making fresh tracks in the snow.

Following the FWQ circuit all over North America and Europe, Martin developed his eye for choosing creative ski lines with fun features. As a natural progression, Martin started exploring BC’s premium backcountry via ski touring and ski mountaineering.

Things really started to click as he perfected his craft by ticking off some of the gnarly lines in the legendary Rogers Pass with a few of his ski buddies. Becoming a guide seemed like a logical move and after being accepted into the Ski Guide training program in 2018, Martin started working at ski touring, cat skiing and heli skiing operations while sharing his deep passion for skiing with his clients.  Martin currently lives and plays in Golden, British Columbia’s Champagne powder capital. Come ski with him!
